The Referral Service has been in operation since PINC's inception in 1989. Its mission is to offer psychoanalysis at a reduced fee to those who are unable to afford private rates. Analyses are conducted by candidates at PINC, all of whom are highly experienced and licensed psychoanalytic therapists. They take place in candidates' offices throughout the SF Bay Area. Psychoanalysis is an intensive therapy conducted as a collaboration between patient and therapist. Usually the patient comes four times per week for fifty-minute sessions. In addition to helping reduce troubling symptoms, over time psychoanalysis can provide a safe setting in which to explore underlying factors which contribute to one's difficulties and unhappiness. The self-knowledge that can develop in such a setting, with this kind of intimate working partnership between therapist and patient, is experiential and not simply intellectual. It can lead to deep and long-lasting changes in troubling relationship patterns. Psychoanalysis often enhances one's self-experience and feelings of aliveness. Psychoanalysis may not be the most beneficial approach for a given person's problems. For those seeking long-term, intensive therapy, we offer help in determining if psychoanalysis is the best therapeutic approach for you. Please call the PINC Referral Service at 415.922.4050 for further information regarding a moderate-fee psychoanalysis with one of our candidates. |
